India’s loss in the first T20I against Australia despite scoring 208 runs, and captain Rohit Sharma did not mince words when asked about the loss. Rohit blamed India’s loss on their poor bowling performance. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the veteran seam bowler, conceded 52 runs in four overs, while Harshal Patel got banged for 49 runs in his full quota. Despite Axar Patel’s heroic 3/17, leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was smashed for 42 runs in 3.2 overs, and Australia easily defeated India.

Here is what the skipper said:

“In my opinion, we bowled poorly. We didn’t take advantage of our chances on the field, so 200 is a good score to defend. Our batters were excellent, but our bowlers were nowhere to be found. Several factors must be considered.” Rohit expressed his displeasure at the award ceremony.

“We are aware of the high score in this area. You can’t relax even if you get 200. We took a few wickets, but they were outstanding. They made some spectacular shots. If I were in that locker room, I would expect to chase that total. 60 runs are likely to be scored in the final four overs. We were unable to seize their wicket “He insisted.

This defeat is similar to India’s previous Asia Cup Super 4 stage defeats to Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Even though India did not score more than 200 runs in those two matches, they still posted a sufficient total, and it was the pacers’ ineffective death bowling that cost India those two games. Prior to the series’ final two games, all eyes will be on India’s bowling.
