Mahmudullah has been omitted from Bangladesh’s 15-man squad for the 2022 men’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia. The veteran all-rounder was one of six players omitted from Bangladesh’s Asia Cup squad.
The squad consists of Shakib Al Hasan, Sabbir Rahman, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Afif Hossain, Mossadek Hossain, Liton Das, Yasir Ali, Nurul Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, Saifuddin, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain, Hasan Mahmud, Najmul Hossain, and Nasum Ahmed.
We have a great deal of respect for Mahmudullah, who has contributed significantly to the national squad. “Our T20 consultant has provided us with a one-year plan that will take us in a fresh direction,” stated Chief Selector Minhajul Abedin. “We proceeded with this plan. In the last six months, we’ve had to cope with numerous injuries due to our poor performance in this manner. We chose to drop out Mahmudullah after discussing with all parties.”
Bangladesh Cricket Officials Statement
“I believe our cricket team needs a succession plan,” said Sridharan Sriram, technical consultant for Bangladesh T20. I have always connected Mahmudullah with MS Dhoni due of his role on the team. Similar to Dhoni, he batted at No. 6 for India. He has finished games. Dhoni could not continue indefinitely, could he?
“You must have a succession plan in place to determine who will succeed you”
I believe that the time has come to consider Mahmudullah’s replacement. We won’t find them until we cast men in that role,” Sriram explained. It is never an easy subject to discuss. In Bangladesh, he has the most T20 appearances.
I hold him in the utmost regard. To facilitate the discourse, I must assume the role of the antagonist. “I feel it went well,” he remarked.
In addition to Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim, who just announced his retirement from Twenty20 Internationals, Anamul Haque, Mohammad Naim, Parvez Hossain, and Mahedi Hasan have also been dropped, leaving place for Nazmul Hossain, Liton Das, Yasir Ali, Nurul Hassan, and Hasan Mahmud.
